The Sean Archetype

A person or character is often defined by their personality, thoughts, and actions. Luna Lovegood, a character from the Harry Potter series, goes to Hogwarts, a school for witches and wizards alike, as a peculiar yet exceptional student who would be defined as a unique and helpful friend. Luna, and her cool-headed, logical, and caring nature, would fall under the Sean Archetype.
Luna Lovegood is calm and collected in situations many others would be angered by, or distraught in. As Harry and a couple of his friends, including Luna, were captured by a number of death eaters, Luna worked together with Dobby to free Harry and the others, all while doing so with a collected composure. Hermione, while being tortured, was of course crying out in pain as the others struggled to keep calm. At the same time, they were all under the threat of being killed at any moment. Many other individuals would have broken down in such a scenario, but Luna remained focused, having the resolve to help get herself and her friends out of Malfoy Manor. Maintaining emotional stability in high pressure situations such as this one takes not only concentration, but also a strong mental capacity to process things logically rather than emotionally.
Luna Lovegood is an unassumingly thoughtful and logical individual. Yet her behavior in her everyday life is seen by her fellow classmates as eccentric, brutally honest, and sometimes just plain odd. Despite this, she was placed in the Ravenclaw house “where those of wit and learning will always find their kind.” She is well reasoned and proves her intelligence through the way she handles problems. When Harry was lead to the entrance of the Ravenclaw common room in The Deathly Hallows by Luna, the answer to a riddle was required to pass through the door. “Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?” Stumped, Harry turned to Luna who eventually responded with the simple yet remarkably insightful phrase “I think the answer is that a circle has no beginning,” and the door then opened up. With her unique demeanor and keen sense of logic, one might wonder what she cares for in life.
Beneath the enigmatic layers of Luna lovegood, there lies a caring heart that reveals itself only through defending or consoling the ones she is close to. If ever there is a time when someone she cares about is under attack, her vague and quiet behavior very rapidly turns precise and stern. Luna admires her father, Xenophilius Lovegood, who works as the editor of The Quibbler, a tabloid in the wizarding world. Anyone who mocks Xeno or The Quibbler will be faced with an uncompromising defense by Luna. If a friend of hers is suffering from heartache, Luna will be at their side to comfort them. After Harry had lost his Godfather, Sirius Black, Luna helped to ease his pain by conversing with him about it in the woods. Harry would remember this and the many other things she did for him in his time at Hogwarts. To honor her, he gave his third child the middle name of Luna.
A character or person who is introduced into someone’s life is memorable, typically for what they say, what actions they take, and who they are. Luna Lovegood, to Harry, is a smart and caring friend who helped him brave a few of the most difficult times in his life. Luna fits the Sean archetype because of her ability to remain cool-headed, logical, and caring throughout the Harry Potter series. She does well to stay focused in times of despair for her friends. And although judged or dismissed from time to time, Luna Lovegood is a force of love that helped save the wizarding world.
